- As we continue our joyful journey through Eastertide, this Third Sunday invites us to walk alongside the disciples on the road to Emmaus (cf. Luke 24:13–35). In their confusion and sorrow, they encounter the Risen Christ, though at first they do not recognise Him. It is only in the breaking of the bread that their eyes are opened and their hearts set ablaze. How often do we, too, fail to see the Lord walking with us—especially in moments of uncertainty or disappointment? Yet He is always there, speaking to us, guiding us, and revealing Himself in Word and Sacrament.
- In our world today, so much is marked by division and unrest. We are reminded of the urgent need for peace, and we keep in our prayers all those affected by conflict and violence. We also echo the call of Pope Leo for renewed dialogue between nations and peoples, that hearts may be softened.
- This coming week also invites us to remember and reflect. On Tuesday, we mark the first anniversary of the death of Pope Francis, giving thanks for his life of service, humility, and witness to the Gospel. May he rest in the peace of the Risen Lord.
- We also celebrate St George, Patron saint of England, whose courage and faith continue to inspire us to stand firm in truth and to live boldly as disciples of Christ in our own time.
- Next Sunday is Vocations Sunday, a time to pray especially for vocations to the priesthood, Diaconate and religious life. May we encourage and support those whom the Lord is calling, trusting that He continues to raise up shepherds for His Church.
- Finally, a reminder that there will be a second collection next Sunday for the Clergy Formation Fund. Your generosity helps to support the training and formation of future priests, ensuring that the mission of the Church continues for generations to come. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, may we recognise the Risen Christ in our midst this week, and go forth with hearts renewed, bearing witness to His love and peace.
- Please continue to pray for the Diocesan 5 year plan ‘Go make Disciples…..’ Pope Francis reminded us, “without prayer all our activity risks being fruitless and our message empty. Jesus wants each of us to be people who bear witness to His good news, not only with words but above all by a life transfigured by God’s presence.”(Evangelii Gaudium, 259). (P9)
